After last week's washout, Hull and Cave Castle finally completed the last remaining fixture of the 2024 Scratch League group phase on a gorgeous evening in Kirk Ella.
Group C has arguably been the most competitive of the four groups, with all of the teams taking points from each other in recent weeks.
KP were guaranteed to progress to the quarter finals whatever happened in the Hull-Cave match, but who would top the group was still up for grabs,
2018 ER Amateur Champion* Ben Rozenbroek (pictured right) led the home team off and was in no mood to hang around, making four birdies in his emphatic 9&8 victory over Jack Musil (left). In the middle match, George Clark (second from right) had an equally fast start, winning the first seven holes in his match against Dan Roberts (2nd left) before running out a 7&6 winner. Gary Pepper (3rd from right) won by the same score in match 3 against talented East Riding junior regular Tom Adcock (3rd right).
The Scratch League has returned to good health over recent years and is a great place for players such as Tom to gain valuable matchplay experience to take into ERUGC Junior fixtures and beyond. All of the group matches have been played in the right sprit, typified by the cordial meal and a pint afterwards at the 13 clubs involved over the last two months. On to the knockout stages now with eight teams looking to secure their place in the final at Ganton Golf Club in September.
With their 3-0 victory, Hull joined Hessle, Scarborough North Cliff and Hornsea as group winners who all earn home ties in the quarter finals. The four group runners up, Beverley, Filey, Ganstead and KP will await where the draw takes them in the coming three weeks.
