The Mercure Hotel in Willerby was the new venue for the 75th ERUGC Annual Dinner held on Friday 28 March, 2025.
130 guests gathered for an enjoyable evening of good food, plentiful wine and golfing camaraderie brilliantly organised by John Britton of Hessle Golf Club.
Most of the Union's 25 clubs were represented and were warmly welcomed by ERUGC President Jonty Hall. The, new Yorkshire Union President Martin Greaves of Pike Hills Golf Club was among the top table guests royally entertained by guest speaker and comedian John Stiles - son of 1966 World Cup legend Nobby.
All of Yorkshire's other seven unions were represented by their Presidents and Secretaries on an evening superbly overseen by toastmaster John Deeming who kept everyone to time.
Two awards were presented at the dinner to Under 18s Player of the Year George Coope (top) from Ganton Golf Club and Mens YIDU Player of the Year Steve Uzzell of Hornsea GC. Steve paid tribute to two time YIDU league winning captain Andy Lockwood who is standing down from his role. Hornsea's Rees Brown takes over on Tuesday ready for the 2025 season.
Jonty made special mention of Alan Barraclough (below on right with George Clark and Andy Lockwood) who is entering his 32nd and final year as YIDU Secretary. Last year's YUGC President Phil Woodcock (red jacket) attended and caught up with many of the talented East Riding youngsters who have played for the Union or the White Rose county over recent years.
