REX WARREN MEDAL at Driffield Golf Club
28th September 2022
Calculators were needed at Driffield Golf Club as ERUGC under 18s Team Manager Sunil Mukerjea prevailed in one of the tightest Rex Warren Medals in years.
Despite five bogies to start his round off his 0.5 hndicap index, Sunil birdied four of the last ten holes to win on a countback from Dave Broughton, the host club's Captain, and Head of Golf at Darwin Escapes Ashley Pheasant.
Last year's President John Chambers and Senior Team Manager Andy Lockwood claimed the incidentals at the par 3 15th and short dog-leg 16th holes respectively.
1st Sunil Mukerjea 36 points (and winner of the Rex Warren Medal)
2nd Dave Broughton 36 points
3rd Ash Pheasant 36 points
Nearest the pin at 15th hole – John Chambers
Nearest the pin in 2 at 16th hole – Andy Lockwood
Many thanks to all at Driffield GC, the course really was in wonderful condition with pristine, true greens. Many thanks to caterer Paul Nelson and team for the quality steak pie and apple crumble.
The turnout of 22 included, in addition to the regular attendees, John Florence and Andrew Webster, Union referees and Norman Broxham the Union auditor. Also making a rare appearance on the links was major Union sponsor, Aaron Pheasant, the Director of Golf at Hull GC.
The Rex Warren Medal will return at Driffield GC on Wednesday 27th September 2023.
Note: It was decided in 1986 to inaugurate this medal to celebrate the high office of President of the EGU bestowed upon Rex Warren, President of the ER Union in 1974 and the Yorkshire Union 1981. It was first played for in 1987.
