Hull booked their place in the ERUGC Junior League final with a thrilling victory over Cottingham in the last round of the group stages.
On a sticky evening at Cottingham Parks, the home team knew that only a whitewash would see them progress, but Hull’s Junior Captain Harry Mukerjea had other ideas. He got ahead of East Riding teammate Ewan Mackenzie early and was 2up at the turn. He maintained the lead through the back nine and a neat chip from the back of the short 16th sealed the victory 3&2.
In the middle match Cooper Beck defeated Finn Abraham 2&1 which left all eyes on the ‘battle of the Georges’ in match three.

Cottingham’s third East Riding regular George Coope took on George Pepper, making only his second start for Hull in the league this season. Things were all square at the turn, but Pepper stayed cool under pressure and used his shots wisely, winning four holes in a row to claim victory on the 15th and confirm Hull’s place in the final at Ganton.
Hornsea had already mathematically qualified, but sealed their place at the top of the standings with a 4-2 victory at Skidby with Alfred and Lilly Anderson winning their matches once again. Along with Redford Osborne, Hornsea certainly look the team to beat in September.
Those results meant that Burstwick vs Hessle was a winner takes all shoot-out. In the top match Alex Hewitson beat Grace Lambert 4&3. The other two matches both went to the last green, but neither produced a positive result and two halved matches were enough for Burstwick to sneak through 4-2.
