Siblings star in both Junior League semi finals

This year's finalists of the East Riding Union Junior League were decided over two play-offs held on Sunday 03 September. Both winning teams contained siblings who had already been instrumental in getting their respective clubs through the group stage and they once again delivered under the pressure of knockout golf.

Hornsea played host to Beverley in the first semi final. Alfred Anderson (pictured left) led to team off and beat Seth Fairburn 4&3. His ER under 18s teammate Seth Topham (middle) finished a hole earlier with a 5&4 victory over Will Bentley, before Lilly Anderson (right) matched her brother's score in beating Oliver Wilson

In the other semi final, league table toppers Skidby Lakes entertained neighbours Cottingham Parks who had snuck in to fourth spot on hole difference in mid July. There was minimal home advantage as all of the boys are members of both clubs, and so it proved as Cottingham ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.

Warren Burns defeated Goerge Coope 3&2, brother Callum beat Bobby Beasley 4&3 and James Williamson completed the clean sweep with a 3&1 victory over Alfie Slater.

So, there will be a new name on the trophy this year for the first time since 2018 when Hull won the first of their four victories on the spin. There was no competition in 2020 for Covid reasons.

Ganton will provide the toughest test the Union can offer for two talented teams under the new matchplay format for the final. It promises to be a memorable day for the six youngsters who get the nod to play over the hallowed inland links.

The final takes place on Sunday 17 September on the same day as the men's Scratch League final and the ERUGC Matchplay final. It promises to be quite a day. Full details to follow.
