Hull Golf Club's George Clark received his ERUGC team blazer after the latest YIDU league match at Halifax on 09 June 2024.
East Riding President Jonty Hall made the presentation in front of both teams and officials to mark George's 12th appearance for the men's team.
During a successful season for the Union's u18 team in 2019, George made his debut for the senior side aged 16 against Bradford Union at Bracken Ghyll, winning his foursomes with good friend Tommy Risker and battling for a half in his singles. A proud day for the whole family including George's grandfather - 1997 ERUGC President Edward Clark
Due to the cancellation of the 2020 season due to Covid, the ER under 18s captain had to wait almost two years before his second appearance - again winning his foursomes with Tommy and then impressing with a 5&4 win in the anchor singles against York at Sandburn.
Clarky maintained his unbeaten start in Union blue when he hit what many described as shot of the season at Rudding Park's 18th. A 6 iron to four feet with the tie in the balance set up the match winning birdie against Harrogate's Mark Rice. The 1up victory eventually proved pivotal in East Riding clinching the 2021 YIDU league title five weeks later.
He returned to action for the Union in June 2022 after completing the first year of his studies at Newcastle University, where he would captain their golf side the following year. George was elected President of the NU Golf Society in 2024. He played five straight matches for East Riding and finished tied third in the Player of the Year standings. A similar belated return to the fold in 2023 saw George being part of the unbeaten East Riding side which lifted the league trophy once again.
