Two of the East Riding's biggest talents were rewarded for their exceptional contributions to Union golf today.
ERUGC President Mike Dawson popped across to Ganton to see the pre-season preparations of the u18s squad under the guidance of Manager Sunil Mukerjea. At lunchtime in front of players, parents and Ganton members, he called forward team captain Luke Thornton (pictured right) and Ganton member Jack Northgraves to receive their Union blazers traditionally given to those who have achieved 12 senior team appearances.
Both players brought up their dozen caps at the end of an exciting 2023 season when the senior team went unbeaten in winning the Yorkshire Inter District League title.
Hessle member Luke, who turns 18 this week, incredibly made his senior debut in 2019 as well as being an ever present in the junior side. Luke captured the 2020 Yorkshire u14 Championship in one of the only events that year to avoid a Covid cancellation and has been in white rose junior sides ever since.
Jack has developed his game over a similar time period firstly as part of the crop of talented youngsters at Scarborough North Cliff, before making Ganton his home club a couple of years ago. He first represented the senior East Riding side in 2021 and has been one of the first names on the teamsheet ever since. Jack broke into Phil Woodcock's Yorkshire junior set up around the same time and was given the honour of captaining the side in 2023 and now plays off +3.0.
Both were delighted to receive their blazer and look forward to being key players in Andy Lockwood's side as they look to defend their YIDU league title this summer.
