Burstwick Country Golf
Seth Topham of Ganton claimed his second Junior Championship in three years, but he had to work for every shot of it on a Burstwick course that kept changing its mind about the wind all day.
Topham’s round two 70 — built on a front nine of 38 followed by a scintillating 32 coming home — was the round that won it. Three birdies in his last six holes turned what was a tight contest into a finish that managed to hold off a stubborn chase from Ganton clubmate George Walker, who was until then matching him hole for hole for long stretches. Topham’s aggregate of 139 (-1) was the only sub-par total of the Championship.
Walker’s own round two of 73 was more than good enough on most days, but not against his playing partner in that kind of mood, and he had to settle for second on 144 (+4). Third spot went to another Ganton golfer, Luca Boyer, whose second-round 72 nudged him up to 147 (+7) — a fitting reward after his own gritty first-round 75.
In the Nett competition, it was Harry Mayoh of Hainsworth Park who came out on top, his round two of 67 — the best nett score of the day — securing the Rosebowl on a total of 139. He was pushed all the way by Louie Brookes of Cottingham Parks, who matched him shot for shot to also finish on 139 but had to settle for the runner-up spot.
The Junior Development Championship, played over 18 holes of Stableford, went the way of Rory Hutson, whose 39 points saw him home ahead of Jack Cawkwell on 38 and Tom Stannard on 33 — a strong showing across the board in a event that continues to bring through some real promise for the Union.
Trevor Loten, ERUGC President Elect, did the honours on trophy day, presenting the TR Leak Cup to Seth Topham (Ganton) and the ERUGC Best Nett Rosebowl to Harry Mayoh (Hainsworth Park). Burstwick Captain Steve Beaumont (above far right) joined the winners on the patio.
The Junior Development Championship trophy was presented to Rory Hutson by 2025 ERUGC President Dave Greenwood.
Huge thanks go to Alan Key and his green, bar and food staff at Burstwick Country Golf, whose efforts kept the course and the clubhouse running smoothly all day for players, families and officials alike.
