Brough came out on top in a thrilling finish to the Junior League Final at Ganton. With the match against Cottingham Parks level at 1-1, Brough’s Will Hall came from behind in the anchor match to take the title with the last putt on the last green.
In the top match, Brough’s Tom Beetham (above left) and Cottingham’s Luke Robinson traded early blows and could not be separated around the turn. Tom took command on the back nine and ran out a 3&2 winner.
In the second match, Cottingham’s Harvey Marshall played some excellent golf in the strong winds to tie things up with his 5&4 victory over Charlie Thompson (above right).
That left all eyes on the anchor match where Will was in a battle royal with Max Meanwell. Max was two up a couple of times before Will made a superb 4 at the long 15th to win the hole against a shot. Another brilliant four at the following hole which Max could not match (below) put him 1 up and the title appeared to be heading to Brough for the first time ever since the Rob McLeish Trophy was first played for in 1992.
Max was not beaten and hit a superb rescue club to the heart of the long par 3 17th to win the hole and bring the match back to all square.
Both players were understandably feeling the pinch a bit going down the last in front of a growing gallery, but it was Will who held his nerve to hole from 18″ to seal the deal (pictured below).
