Max power not enough as Skidby scoop team title

ERUGC Junior Team Championship
Skidby Lakes
Friday 29th May 2026

They always say that local knowledge goes a long way, and so it proved at Skidby Lakes for the 2026 ERUGC Junior Team Championship.

Skidby was in excellent condition after the heatwave, but running firm and bouncy with the onus on accuracy rather than length. Thick rough lurked everywhere to catch wayward drives and some of the Union’s top junior players struggled to keep it on the planet at times.

Therefore, it was no surprise that the home team of Louis Danville (nett 68), Lincoln Fowler (72) and Malci Greenwood (discarded 91) plotted their way around and avoided the big numbers in the medal format for a nett team total of +4. They won the Frank Barrett Trophy and will go on to represent East Riding in the Yorkshire final at The Oaks on 12th July. Pictured below are Malci (left) and Lincoln with President Alan Hutchinson.

Hull’s trio of Max Walker, Charles Hart and Joey Martin looked likely winners when first out Max shot a remarkable 72 gross off 5 for a nett 67. However, the best second counting score was only a 76 from Charles, leaving Skidby 2 as champions with a three shot win. Skidby 1 were third on +9 alongside Beverley & East Riding.

Max duly took the best individual honours and Hull won the best gross team prize by 11 shots to lift the TR Leak Trophy. Pictured below left to right are Charles Hart and Max Walker.

Thanks to Andy Pittaway for a top job on the starting duties – never easy at Skidby as the first hole was definitely reachable for some of the players. Ian Jeffrey manned the desk all day with ERUGC President Alan Hutchinson and John Illingworth went through all the cards with the players as they came in. A top team effort as always.

Skidby’s food and hospitality was welcomed by all on a hot day – thanks to all the staff involved on and off the course.
