Cott too hot for Hull in Junior League

Cottingham Parks and Hainsworth Park consolidated their places at the top of their groups following victories in Gameweek 3 of the 2024 East Riding Junior League.

Cottingham travelled to Hull and took maximum points against a strong Kirk Ella side who had brought in Luke Thornton as a late replacement. He trialled Tom Anderson by one hole with 4 to play, but Tom's brave putt at the 16th (pictured) and a nerveless 4 nett 3 at the long 17th gave Cottingham the top match.

Further victories for Noa Ayala, in only her third ever match, and Ollie Spencer clinched all the points. Both won 3&2 over Bobby Beasley and Harry Mukerjea respectively.

Cottingham's lead at the top of Group A is now four points over Cave Castle who shared the spoils away at Beverley & East Riding. Cave's in form Huxley Sawyer beat Seth Fairburn 5&3, before ER teammate Tom Adcock halved with Will Bentley. Beverley's Oliver Wilson brought the match to 3-3 with a 2up victory over Jack Wall.

In Group B, Hainsworth Park recovered from last week's defeat to get back to winning ways with a 4-2 victory away at Burstwick. The home team took the first point when Ethan Matthews beat Tom Jimmeson 5&3, before Hainsworth's Harry Mayoh and Freddie Moore won 8&7 and 3&2 respectively to stretch their lead to four poionts in the standings.

Skidby retained their unbeaten record with a narrow win over Hornsea with all matches going to the 17th green. Skidby's James Williamson beat Seth Topham 2&1, before Archie Bean levelled things with victory over Lilly Anderson. Her brother Alfred also suffered a rare defeat, going down 3&1 to Louie Brookes.

That's halfway now for most of the teams (with Burstwick v Skidby needing to be rearranged from week 1) and much can happen when the fixtures are reversed. Gameday 4 in on Monday 20 May before we break for the main period of school exams.
