Cottingahm Parks made an early statement on a chilly and wet Bank Holiday Monday as the 2023 Junior League began.
They 'nilled' a strong looking Hessle line-up as East Riding u18 regular Ewan Mackenzie took down Union teammate Luke Thornton 1up. Warren Burns beat Grace Lambert 4&3 and brother Callum saw off Callum Akester 3&2.
Title holders Hull also made a winning start against Beverley. Harry Mukerjea and Tom Hinks both won 6&5 against Freddie Rodgers and Will Howe respectively, whilst Will Bentley picked up a victory for the Westwood side in the middle match against George Pepper finishing on the 16th green [pictured]
The tightest opening fixture was at Hornsea where the home side took out Burstwick in a thriller. Alfred Anderson beat Tom Ward 1 up. Seth Topham beat Ethan Mathews 2&1, before Burstwick deservedly took something from the match when Will Waudby beat Lilly Anderson on the 18th by 2 holes.
