YIDU Team Championship

The 2026 Men’s YIDU season started with high hopes, but ended at Rudding Park near Harrogate with a disappointing finish at the 6-Man Team Championship.
The East Riding Union 6-man team consisted of Jacob Hodgson, Tom Sanghera, Leigh Gawley, Paul Wray, Tom Benson and Tom Duck, ably managed by Team Manager Rees Brown.
Rudding Park was presented in great condition and posed a challenging test for the teams. Girls and boys gathered on the first tee early doors to see the 48 competitors including Jacob Hodgson (back left) on their way for the long day ahead.
Superb under par returns from Jacob, Tom Benson, and Tom Sanghera in round one helped put East Riding in a decent position at lunchtime, only ten shots off leaders Leeds. Sadly, hopes faded to a blur in the shadow of the country house in the second round and East Riding eventually ended up in 8th place.
After two consecutive second places in previous years, Teesside Union stepped up a gear with a 9-under gross total team score of 711 over 36 holes to win the 2026 title in a closely fought finish by two shots from universal contenders Sheffield Union.
Individual honours on the day went on countback to Adam Denton of Sheffield Union who finished with an excellent 6-under gross total score of 138 for 36 holes.
