results
An excellent turn out of 18 teams gathered at Beverley & East Riding Golf Club for the East Riding Junior Team Championship
Many clubs fielded two teams and Hainsworth Park joined Cottingham with three teams each. Hopefully this shows further resurgence of Junior golf in the region.
Two out of three scores in each team were to count in the team competitions with the dry and windy Beverley playing at its ‘links like’ best.
Reports from the course included ‘very wayward’ and ‘carnage’ as many players struggled to keep the ball on the fairway. The gusty conditions certainly made it dificult on the Westwood, but the scores returned showed many of the juniors coped well with the squally afternoon.
The nett team championship was a close affair and the winners of the Frank Barratt Trophy were Scarborough North Cliff Golf Club with a 130 total – edging out Cottingham 3 by one shot on 131, with Beverley 2 third on 135.

Above – Neil Barratt presented the trophy to Edward Francis of Scarborough North Cliff Golf Club who also won the best nett of the day with a 60.
Jack Burt (below) of Cottingham took home the best individual gross with an excellent 74 one ahead of Huxley Sawyer of Cave Castle 75, with home player Seth Fairburn third with a 76

With Huxley’s 75 added to Jack Walls 80 ( Tom Adcock 81 the non scorer) Cave Castle won the Gross Team event and the TR Leak Trophy by four shots on 155 from Tom Hinks 78, Bobby Beasley 81 on 159 for Hull 1 (George Pepper with a 85 was the non-scoring team member). In third place was Ganton with 160.

Many thanks to all at Beverley & East Riding Golf Club for hosting the event, members for giving up a few hours tee times and welcoming the competitors, officials and families to the club so warmly. Thank you to Alex and the team for the excellent food, Dave Jackson and his team for preparing the course and to Ian Jeffrey for organising the whole event so well via the Golf Genius system. Players were sent on their way, on time as always, by ERUGC starting stalwart Andy Pittaway.

Harry’s game – Hull claim Junior Team Championship
A best nett of the day from Junior Captain Harry Earl clinched victory for Hull Golf Club in the East Riding Junior Team Championship at Hornsea Golf Club.
Conditions were brutal, following heany rain in the previous 24 hours and a strong wind making the back nine feel twice as long as usual.
Nine teams took part, with Cottingham Parks fielding three of them. Two out of three scores in each team were to count in the team competitions.
Most players seemed to start well and were lulled into a false sense of security as the first seven holes were pretty much all down breeze. Once they turned for home however, many began to struggle in the gusty conditions on the magnificent Rolston Road layout.
The nett team championship was a close affair and the winners of the Frank Barrett Trophy were Hull Golf Club when their third player Harry Earl got up and down from 40 yards at the last for par. His nett 74 was added to Bobby Beasley‘s 76 for a team total of 150 (Max Wright had his nett 81 discarded) to win by one from Cottinhgham A whose counting scores were East Riding u18 regulars Callum Burns (75) and George Coope (76).

George took home the best individual gross with a battling 78, one ahead of Callum. Their third player Warren Burns struggled with his ball flight all day and his gross 86 was discarded. Cottingham comfortably won the TR Leak Trophy by ten shots from the home Hornsea trio of Lilly Anderson, Alfred Anderson and Seth Topham.

ERUGC President Jonty Hall presented the trophies and vouchers to all of the prizewinners at his home course.

Many thanks to all at Hornsea Golf Club for welcoming competitors, officials and families to the club so warmly. To Dave Greenwood for organising the whole event so brilliantly and to Edward and Eileen Clark for manning the desk throughout the day. Players were sent on their way on time as always by ERUGC starter Andy Pittaway.

Ganton win the Junior Club Team Championship
A cold overcast day at Filey GC greeted the players for the Junior Team Championships.
Unfortunately, only 6 clubs were represented with exams and holidays again affecting entries. Well, done again to Cottingham who fielded 3 teams on the day.
Two out of three scores were to count in the team competitions.
Most players struggled in the cool breeze on the well presented course with the lowest gross score of the day Amy Staveley of Ganton GC 1 with a fine 76 who won the individual gross prize.
With Luke Townhill shooting a 78 this was enough for Ganton1 to win the TR Leak Trophy and were crowned the Junior Club Team Champions for 2023 with a total of 154 .Third team member Harrison Jones shot 80
Cottingham GC1 came second in the gross event with a total score of 161 – George Coope 79 and Alfie Slater 82 the two to count with Bobby Beasley 90.
The Net Team championship was a closer affair and the winners of the Frank Barrett Trophy went to Hainsworth Park GC when the very last player out, Harry Mayoh, added his superb net 64 to his partners 76 to claim the win with a counting total of 140.
Hainsworth will now represent the East Riding Union in the Yorkshire Junior Club Team Championship in early July. Good luck!
